Workshop : Sat 21 of June - 10:30 AM

Day of Arts 2025

This year, we will once again celebrate UNESCO's initiative known as "World Art Day". The day is usually celebrated on April 15, but due to the proximity of Mother Earth Day (which we also take part in), we have decided to celebrate it on a date close to the International Day of Music, which takes place on 21 June.

The Day of Arts is a celebration of the arts as a universal language of expression that can transcend borders and bring people together. Our guiding theme is "Unity through Diversity" and you are warmly invited to celebrate the elevating, inspiring and transformative power of the arts with us.

Programme

10.30 am Doors (and cafeteria) open

11-12.00 am Talk: The Renaissance at Dawn.

This talk will discuss the spiritual and philosophical dimensions in art around the 13th century in the years preceding the Florentine Renaissance.  Considering the principles and attitudes that emerged during this time and were to contribute to the flourishing of art in Europe. Painters such as Cimabue, Giotto and Duccio in particular.

12.15-1.15 pm Workshop: Getting Started with Singing

You can sing. It’s a fact. We all have different physiology but, in general, we all have the same physical equipment as an opera singer or pop-singer (lungs, a larynx, ears and a brain).

Getting the singing equipment to work together takes a bit of practice. This workshop is an opportunity for you to explore your singing voice. Through a series of games, exercises and techniques you will get to know your own unique singing voice better and sing some songs along the way.

1.30-4.30 pm Workshop: Drop-in Drawing Session

We have all become consumers of art, rather than being artistically active ourselves. The workshop invites you to discover and/or develop your drawing skills. Dave Cole FRSA has been a practising artist since he was a child, with his first exhibition in Germany in the late 1950s. This session is for all levels, so that everyone can 'draw out' more of their latent abilities.

1.30-2.45 pm Theatre Performance: The Little Prince

Our newly founded theatre group will present an adapted dramatization of the beloved classic by Saint Exupéry. Follow the Little Prince as he travels from planet to planet, meeting curious characters and learning profound lessons about love, friendship and what truly matters in life.

3-3.45 pm Talk: Art and the Art of Living

Art and the art of living have a lot in common. This short talk will explore how we could approach our life like an artist, shaping it with the same care, creativity and consciousness that great art requires.

4-5 pm Talk: Art: A Bridge to Peace

‘It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it’ (Eleonor Roosevelt) - not sure whether we should use these two quotes

We yearn for peace and the freedoms it brings. Yet, for millennia, it eludes humanity too often. Through time, artists have used a range of symbols and pictorial representations to evoke outer and inner peace. Join this exploratory session in search of peace – drawing on timeless emblems of peace and the work of painters such as Picasso, Rubens, Goya, Nash, Caspar David Friedrich, Munch, Seurat and Van Gogh.

‘We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves’ (Dalai Lama)

5.15-6.15 pm Workshop (we are running this twice): Getting Started with Singing
