Talk : Wed 2 of October - 7 PM
Theory of the Imprisoned Soul
The idea that we are essentially an immortal soul goes back thousands of years. Both East and West have shared this belief and one of its clearest representations is perhaps Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, in which he presents the Soul as a prisoner, and the mortal personality as its prison or cage. The Eastern doctrine of Karma teaches that we make our own prisons and that we are our own jailers.
This talk will expand on these concepts and look at how different Eastern and Western philosophies have addressed the problem and proposed ways of obtaining freedom or liberation from the ‘cage’.
