UNESCO World Philosophy Day 2023: Philosophy in Action

In celebration of UNESCO's World Philosophy Day, we will offer an evening of two talks around the topic of "Philosophy in Action". The first talk will explore the link between philosophy and the outer world of action: the importance of philosophy in engaging with the problems and issues of our time, the beliefs and values that drive our behaviour and how philosophy can help us to make better decisions and act more wisely.

The second talk will explore the inner dimension of philosophy in action and look at “spiritual exercises” in the Western philosophical tradition. Scattered throughout the works of ancient philosophers, we can find methods for raising the consciousness to the life of the Spirit and developing the sense of being part of a greater whole.

Each talk will last about 50 minutes and there will be a break in the middle for food (buffet) and philosophical conversation.

Admission £15 (concs. £8) – refreshments included.

Location: 18 Compton Terrace N1 2UN, next door to Union Chapel.
