World Philosophy Day: The Language of Symbols

In support of UNESCO's World Philosophy Day, New Acropolis will be holding an evening of short talks, exploring the Language of Symbols. It seems that both philosophy and symbols are inherent in our human nature. According to Karl Jaspers, human beings have an innate dispositions towards philosophy and Mircea Eliade refers to the human being as homo symbolicus.

Over thousands of years, symbols have been used to express the ineffable and to create a bridge between the invisible and visible dimensions.

Although many of us can recognise and perhaps appreciate symbols, few of us have learnt to understand them. Learning to read symbols with greater insight and clarity will help to develop our imagination, which is not only one of our most important and powerful faculties but is also essential to find solutions to our current crises, to project ourselves into the future and to make things happen.

There will be four talks, each lasting about 20 minutes, with a break in the middle for refreshments and philosophical conversation.

Tickets for this event are priced at £10 (£6 concession).

New Acropolis is an educational charity with all proceeds going towards support our activities, thank you!

Location: 19 Compton Terrace N1 2UN, next door to Union Chapel.
